May 2026 Release
Overview
On 18 May 2026, we will deploy the Q2 2026 update for Cubed by Law Squared. This release delivers a host of new features and enhancements across the Matters and Contracts modules, plus improvements to the Cubed Intake form. Highlights include new quick-edit options for matters, automated contract renewal and termination workflows, an expanded Contracts dashboard with new analytics, and various user experience improvements. In addition, we’ve fixed numerous bugs to improve the platform's stability and usability. Below is a detailed breakdown of the changes relevant to Cubed and Cubed Intake:
General improvements
- User Interface Updates: The Cubed application interface has been refreshed for clarity and ease of use. Expect a cleaner layout and other UI enhancements that make navigation and task completion more intuitive for end users.
- Performance Enhancements: We have significantly improved the loading speed of certain dashboard components – for example, the “Matters Over Time” chart on the main dashboard now loads much faster, reducing wait times. Overall application performance and responsiveness have been enhanced.
- User Preferences: Your personalised view settings are now saved. The number of records per page you select for lists (e.g., Matters, Contracts, Parties) will persist across sessions. This means if you prefer to view, say, 50 records at a time, Cubed will remember that setting the next time you log in, saving you the hassle of resetting it.
- Risk Categories: We’ve expanded the available risk classification options. Two new risk categories, “Process Issue” and “Knowledge Gap”, have been added to the system. These allow your team to more precisely categorise and track the type of risks or issues identified in matters or processes, improving risk management and reporting.
- System Monitoring and Reliability: Behind the scenes, we have improved system telemetry and workflow reliability. The frequency of our telemetry “heartbeat” has been increased, which helps our support team respond more quickly to any workflow issues. Additionally, we improved the reliability of email-processing workflows (such as the “Extract mail metadata” and “When a matter email is received” processes) so that automated email integrations with matters run more smoothly.
- Business User List Configuration: Configuring the list of business users for automated workflows is now simplified. Cubed now utilises a designated “Business Users” group ID to retrieve the list of business users, rather than relying on a manually filtered Office 365 Users list. This behind-the-scenes change will provide a much more accurate list of business users from the organisation.
Matters module
- Quick Edit & Note on Matter Cards: To streamline matter updates, you can now perform quick actions directly from a matter card on the kanban view. The matter card’s context menu includes a new “Edit” option for making quick changes to matter details, as well as an “Add Note” option to attach a note/status update to the matter without having to open the full matter form. This saves time when you need to jot down important details or correct information on the fly.
- Restricted Matters: We have introduced a Restricted Matters capability to help you control access to highly sensitive or confidential matters. When a matter is marked as “Restricted,” it will only be visible and accessible to authorised users (such as the assigned lawyer and general counsel). This ensures that confidential matters are kept private within your organisation’s Cubed workspace.
- Near-Due/Past-Due Badges: To help you stay on top of deadlines, Cubed will now automatically highlight approaching or missed due dates within a matter. If a task or key date in a matter is nearing its deadline or has passed, a Near-Due or Past-Due badge will appear on the Matter Details page. This visual indicator draws attention to items that may require urgent action, so nothing critical is overlooked.
- Email the Requestor: You can now easily communicate with the requestor of a matter. Cubed has added the ability to send an email directly to the Requestor of a matter from within the application. This will automatically include the matter number in the subject line, enabling automatic email filing. It allows legal teams to quickly follow up or clarify requirements with the person who submitted the request, all without switching to your email client.
Contracts module
- “Key Dates” becomes “Contract Terms”: In contract records, the section previously labelled Key Dates has been overhauled and renamed to Contract Terms. This updated section consolidates important contract duration details and deadlines, and we’ve adjusted the fields and functionality for better clarity. You’ll now find it easier to manage contract start dates, end dates, notice periods, and automatic renewals and termination rights in one place under Contract Terms.
- Contract Renewal Reminder Notifications: Cubed can now automatically send out reminder notifications for upcoming contract renewals. When a contract’s end date or renewal date is approaching, the system will alert the contract owner, so they have ample time to review and renew the contract. This helps prevent contracts from unintentionally lapsing or being extended when you plan to cease them.
- Automatic Contract Renewal Workflow: We’ve introduced an Automatic Contract Renewal Process workflow to streamline contract management. If enabled for a contract, this workflow can automatically handle the renewal of a contract record according to predefined rules (for instance, extending the end date by the renewal term amount). This reduces manual effort in managing routine renewals.
- Contract Termination/Rescission Process: In addition to renewal automation, a new Contract Termination/Rescission Notice process has been implemented. This provides a structured workflow for when a contract is terminated or notice is rescinded. The process ensures that required notifications are captured and the contract status is updated appropriately, offering a clearer audit trail when contracts are ended.
- Read-Only Mode for Inactive Contracts: To prevent accidental changes to finalised contracts, the Contract Details screen will now switch to a read-only mode whenever a contract is in a terminal state; specifically, if the contract is in its Notice Period, has been Terminated, or is Expired. In read-only mode, users can view all information but cannot edit the contract unless its status changes to an active state again. This safeguard helps maintain data integrity for closed contracts.
- Contracts Dashboard Upgrades: The Contracts dashboard has been significantly enhanced to give your team better insights into your contract portfolio. The Total Contracts count and status breakdown have been updated to align with new contract statuses introduced in this release. Moreover, we’ve added three new charts to the dashboard: Total Contract Value by Contract Type (visualising the aggregate value of contracts by type), Upcoming Renewals, and Upcoming Expirations/Terminations. These new charts make it easier to monitor forthcoming contract actions and overall contract distribution briefly.
- Contract Notification Settings (Admin): For those in administrator roles, Cubed now allows configuration of system-wide settings for contract notifications. Admins can adjust how and when Cubed sends out contract-related alerts (such as renewal reminders or expiration notices) to users. This flexibility lets your organisation align the notification lead times and recipients with your internal processes – ensuring the right people are notified at the right time.
Intake form
- New Intake Instructions Panel: The Cubed Intake Form (the interface where business users submit new matter) can now feature an additional instructions panel on the initial “splash” screen. This panel is customisable by your team (default is not visible). It can be used to display helpful guidance, disclaimers, or any important notes to users as they begin filling out a request. For example, you might include tips on what information to have ready, or reminders about service level timelines, or instructions about self-servicing where requests are not required to be submitted. By providing clear instructions up front, requestors are better equipped to submit complete and accurate requests, which in turn helps your team process them more efficiently.
Bug fixes
This release also includes a variety of bug fixes and quality improvements for the Cubed platform:
- Date Filter on Data Grids: Fixed an issue where using a specific date in a filter on data grids would not return the correct results. Now, filtering by an exact date filter works as expected.
- Kanban Card Assignee Name: Resolved a bug that caused the Assignee’s name to be missing from Matter Kanban cards. The assignee is now correctly displayed on each card, so you can see who is assigned.
- Exports to CSV: Improved the Export to CSV functionality for both Matters and Contracts. Exports of Matters now include the Matter Type field and have an adjusted date format for consistency, and exports of Contracts now use the correct date format as well. These fixes ensure that your exported spreadsheets contain all the relevant information in a useful format.
- Adding Matter/Contract Types: Fixed an issue where the Add Matter Type and Add Contract Type buttons were not enabled when they should have been. Administrators can once again add new Matter Types or Contract Types via the Settings module, which is important for configuring the system to match your organisation’s needs.
- Currency Field Fixes: Updated custom currency fields to use your environment’s default currency instead of always showing US$ or AUD$. In addition, we fixed an error that occurred when an intake request included a decimal value in a custom currency field; those requests will now load into Cubed without issues.
We hope these new features and fixes enhance your experience with Cubed. For any questions about the release, please reach out to our support team or consult the Cubed Help Centre for more details.
Enjoy the new update!
