How to link parent and child matters

Overview:

This document explains how to connect related matters in Cubed by assigning parent and child relationships, how to review linked matters, and how to remove a link when it is no longer needed.

Linking matters gives your team a clearer view of how work fits together, reduces time spent hunting for related context, and helps general counsel see complex matters (such as multi-stream litigation, investigations, or transactions) in full. Following these steps keeps related work organised, easier to navigate, and easier to report on.

Key Steps:


1. Open the Matter and Go to Related Matters 0:16

  • Click the matter you want to update.
  • Open the Related Matters tab.
  • Use this tab to manage matter relationships in one place.

2. Assign a Parent Matter 0:34

  • In the Related Matters tab, locate the option to assign a parent matter.
  • Select the appropriate parent matter from the list.
  • Confirm the selection so the current matter is linked under the chosen parent.

3. Add One or More Child Matters 0:34

  • In the same Related Matters tab, click Add Child Matters.
  • Select one or more child matters from the available list.
  • Save the selection to connect the child matters to the current matter.

4. Review Connected Matters 1:06

  • Use the View button to navigate to the parent matter.
  • Review all connected matters from the Related Matters tab.
  • Confirm the relationship structure is correct and complete.

5. Unlink a Child Matter 1:21

  • Click Edit Child Matters.
  • Unselect the child matter you want to remove.
  • Click Save to remove the connection between the matters.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Review all related matters before linking to avoid duplicate or incorrect connections.
  • Use the View button to quickly confirm the parent matter without leaving the tab.
  • Keep matter relationships updated as project scope changes to maintain accurate context.
