Restricting and Unrestricting Matters
Overview:
This article explains how to verify permissions, restrict a matter to limit visibility, and unrestrict it when broader access is needed. Restricted Matters give general counsel control over who can see and access highly sensitive work, such as executive departures, confidential acquisitions, investigations, or whistleblower complaints. Using this feature keeps confidential matters visible only to authorised users, reducing the risk of unintended exposure within your workspace and giving your team confidence to manage sensitive work in Cubed.
Key Steps:
1. Verify that you have permission to restrict matters0:13

- Open User Settings.
- Select the relevant user account.
- Confirm that the Cubed General Counsel profile is set to Yes.
- If the profile is not enabled, you will not be able to mark matters as restricted.
2. Restrict a matter after it has been created 0:36

- Open the matter you want to restrict.
- Click the Restrict button.
- Confirm the action when prompted.
- The matter will now be hidden from general team visibility.
3. Understand who can access a restricted matter 0:50

- Restricted matters are visible only to:
- The assigned lawyer
- Users with the Cubed General Counsel profile
- Restricted matters will not appear in:
- Team searches
- Reports
- Dashboards
- Use this setting for matters that require tighter visibility control.
4. Unrestrict a matter when broader access is needed 1:06

- Open the restricted matter.
- Click the Unrestrict button.
- Confirm the action when prompted.
- The matter will return to normal visibility for users who have access based on standard permissions.
Cautionary Notes
- Only users with the Cubed General Counsel profile can restrict or unrestrict matters.
- Confirm you are working on the correct matter before clicking Restrict or Unrestrict.
- Restricted matters are intentionally hidden from most users, so use this feature only when confidentiality or limited visibility is required.
Tips for Efficiency
- Verify the Cubed General Counsel profile before attempting to restrict matters to avoid permission errors.
- Restrict the matter immediately after creation if it contains sensitive information.
- Use the Unrestrict action only after confirming the matter no longer requires limited visibility.
- Keep a consistent internal process for deciding when a matter should be restricted.
